A man from Ferndale has found a message in a bottle in the sea at Porthcawl.
Ron Scrumps from The Strand in Ferndale was walking along the Esplanade in Porthcawl earlier today when he spotted the bottle bobbing about in the sea and decided to wade in to get it. “I spotted the bottle bobbing about in the sea,” Ron told us, “and decided to wade in to get it.”
“I’ve always wanted to find a message in a bottle, just like the one in the song by the Police, hopefully a message from some far off land.”
But Ron’s dreams of finding some message from a far off land were dashed, when he opened the message and found it was from someone who lived in his own town of Ferndale.
“It’s absolutely ridiculous really,” said Mr Scrumps, “I know the bloke who wrote the message, I called the number on the message when I was on my way home on the bus, and I could hear is phone ringing, he was only sitting two rows behind me. What are the chances of that? It’s a small world.”
Malcolm Trunking who posted the message told us, “I’m really pleased that someone has found my message, I did hope that it would take a little longer than two hours though, and maybe had gone a bit further, but I can’t complain really.”
