Police were called to the top of Penrhys hill earlier this evening, to break up a fight between Llwynypia residents and cheapskate skinflints who watch other people’s fireworks from the hilltop overlooking Llwynypia and Ystrad (Rhondda).
Clive Clifton from Llwynypia was incensed after he noticed twenty or more people watching him light fireworks in his back garden that he had paid for, “I just saw red really”, said Clive, “I jumped in the car and sped up there as fast as I could and told them what I thought of them, they do it every year you see.”
A fight then broke out, and police were called, when they arrived they found Mr Clifton hitting one of the tight-arsed, penny pinching misers with a roman candle, shouting “Do you want a closer look tightwad?”
Constable Catherine Wheeler said, “It was quite a volatile situation that could have exploded at any time, when things finally calmed down we booked everyone for illegally parking on the hill, and let Mr Clifton off.”

Very funny, why not make this a group so that others can join?

Pathetic, surely police for better things to do than move people , penrhys is a stunning view to watch fireworks with a small child who may be afraid to go to a display. And there is more than 1 person setting fireworks off! I think it’s a good idea !!! And if parking on the hill is para lim there are spaces to park if anyone want to go next year:)

it amazes me that people plead poverty yet they spend a fortune on fireworks, and say well its for the kids, personaly i think they frighten kids but teenagers will play silly games with fireworks ,they are dangerous in an uncontrolled enviroment ,i had fireworks myself as a kid but they are more lethal now and too powerfull for dummies to mess with.

That’s nothing…I live below Penrhys and have several times spotted shell-suit cladded perverts spying at me from the mountain, when I change into my lucky pulling pants. I now have to close the curtains and have moved my Ann Summer stuff to the front bedroom.

If you buy fireworks and set them off you cannot pick or choose who looks at them. If you don’t want anyone to see the fireworks you set off, then it’s simple, don’t set them off at all. It’s a free country.

I si agree it is a free country and people have always watched fireworks from penrhys hill.. my daughter don.t like fireworks from close range she is epileptic so i take her to displays or drive around in car to watch them.. nothing to do with being a selfish or not wanting to spend money .

I spend a lot of money every year on fireworks and always had free-loaders enjoying a free show with my hard earned money. Not this year though because I put empty bean tins on the top of all my rockets, they are now just the right weight to only go the height of my large garden fence so only we can see them.

Even though we have had all this bad weather there were still some fireworks going off on Monday night, my dog has been under the table shaking for over a week, all fireworks should be banned and anyone caught letting them off should be locked up in prison.
I have sent an email complaining about fireworks to David Cameron with a photo of my dog under the table. I will keep you all informed when he replies to me.

I would have booked the man who started the fight in the first place troublemaker he is. If you don’t want people to watch the fireworks why by them in the first place, waste of money they are. All that money wasted for 5 minutes. What a idiot

I paid to go and see the Sparks In The Park display in Cardiff castle field, but when I was driving home I could see some other rockets going off and it made we wonder how many cheap skate bastards were outside the field free-watching the same display I paid to go in and see? Pikey bastards! Next year they should erect mile high curtains all round the field so only people who bought tickets can go in and see.

I think the council should provide a smoke machine on bonfire night to obscure the fireworks from cheapskates up on Penrhys hill

I think it’s awful that someone got assaulted and the police did nothing and call people watching names and book them….I have a disabled sister and fireworks up close upset her I have often taken her on penryhs Hill for her to see which she enjoys does that make me a skinflint… and what of those who have kids but not much money what is wrong with people that assume that if they pay for fireworks only they should see them if it bothers you that much don’t get them as I can tell you that the ones on the mountain weren’t the only ones watching you gonna go around and assault them to and the police do naff all about it and this Rhondda news make fun of them too….whoever wrote this article needs to be ashamed of themselves for making fun of less fortunate people who may not have much money

Why don’t the police put a roadblock on the bottom of Penrhys and Tylorstown hill just before it gets dark.
Failing that they could charge the cars that park on the hill a tenner each to watch the displays.
This continuing Penrhys hill problem has only started since the vote for Brexit happened, Downing Street has a lot to answer for, It’s little wonder David Cameron pissed off.

Fireworks killed my uncle in 1982. He was a keen birdwatcher and was out with his neighbours wife looking for a Golden Rivet when he was struck by a rogue rocket. He lived for another 20 years but he had to have a special seat made. With new technology, fireworks are probably more dangerous nowadays so I hate to think of others having to go through something like this
