The Rhondda bound merge in turn road system in place at Pontypridd’s busy gyratory system is a serious health concern for Rhondda drivers, a government medical think tank has confirmed.
Drivers who use the A4058 at peak times will be well aware of the traffic chaos near the new Lidl store where the two Rhondda bound lanes merge into one, but are they aware that they could be causing significant damage to their mental health at the same time.
Professor Huw Lowe of Bristol University who specialises in driving behavior told us, “The mental pressure felt by drivers while trying hard to only let one car merge in front of them, is akin to the mental stress experienced by people during a divorce or moving house, it’s the third most stressful experience a person will endure in their lifetime, and some people are experiencing this every single day.”
Professor Lowe went on to tell us that Lidl have cashed in on drivers’ misfortune by placing a shop in that very position just to entice stressed motorists in to the shop to buy cans of Stella for the journey home to help them cope with the stress.
Councillor Adam North told My Rhondda News, “We are well aware of the unnecessary stress this road layout puts on Rhondda motorists and will soon be trialling a merge in every three system, where every third car will have to allow three cars merge in front of them. We believe that this will not only lessen congestion but also promote more friendly attitudes between drivers.”
Jon Evans, from Ton Pentre, a regular user of this part of the road system said, “It’s absolutely ridiculous really, I’m glad I only pass through once a week. I feel for the ones who have to do it every day of the week but I’ll be buggered if I’m going to let two cars in, never mind three, and I’ll never let anyone out at the Merlin bridge either, cheeky twats.”

This is not the case at all, most drivers know of this part of thier journey and know it is only for a short time and distance. The merging is done correctly as in the zip affect. People coming out of lidl’s are let in and very rarely do you get an impatient driver.

The answer is easy. Close off one of the lanes during rush hour, this will stop people getting stressed and any cheeky twats trying to cheat the merge.

Ask drivers if they would allow a car to merge in , if they say no, keep them off the road for a month, give them 3points, and put their insurance up by £200

I use this road every day to commute from my home in Porth to work in Cardiff and back home again.Far too many people race from the lights to the merge in the road to see who can get there first. And before long there is going to be an accident at that very spot as people also drive over the ghost islands outside Evan James school when they know damn well they are not supposed to.

And it’s the bloody female drivers who are the worse. They will not merge with anyone. Call in Lidl and do some shopping for god’s sake. You’ll feel better after buying 14 pkts. of fags and 7 bottles of Prosecco.

instead of spending 90 million quid for a bypass from porth to tylorstown { which is seemingly constantly empty and is a 40 mile an hour 40 what the f**k is that by the way country lanes are 60 but this f****ng huge bypass is 40 } and spent the money on a flyover and bypass for this shit hole road

I blame the council they should have seen this coming and have made LIDL dig a tunnel under Ponty from the Broadway to Hopkinstown. The Germans are well known for engineering marvels and LIDL is making a fortune in Ponty so it would have been easy for them.
