Middle Class Rhondda People Want Terraced Houses Demolished

So called middle class people living in the Rhondda want the traditional terraced house eradicated from the valleys.

In a My Rhondda News survey of Rhondda people living in new build homes, the majority of those asked would like to see all terraced houses demolished and replaced by Frankie and Bennys or Chiquitos style restaurants.

Huw Hughes from Treorchy’s Swn-Yr-Afon said “I think the valley would be a better place if we got rid of the old terraced houses and replaced them with something like McArthur Glen or Talbot Green Retail Parks.”

Scum
“If we can make the Rhondda more like Talbot Green or Pontyclun then maybe the people I work with in Cardiff, who live in Cowbridge, will think better of me really.” said Shayley Jones from a new housing estate near Porth, “At the moment they think I’m just valley scum but I’m not, look at my kitchen, it’s expensive.”

Thomas Curd from Dinam Park, Ton Pentre said, “As much as I’d like to, it wouldn’t be practical to knock down all the terraced houses, I mean where would the people move to? But if we demolished every third house, at least people could say they lived in semi detached properties.”

Fringe
Mary Fringe from Blaenlleachau said, “It’s absolutely ridiculous really, although it would alleviate the parking problems in Blaen.”

I think it’s a great idea, we need to move on from being working class, it’s so 1960s.

The only way to keep those type of people happy would be to move them all to somewhere like Trehafod and stick a few Poundworld shops in their village.

John Cash- I find your comment extremely rude and judgemental. Who do you think you are to say “those type of people” and insinuate that because people live in terraced houses they are all of a sudden below you? You don’t know my household income, occupations, circumstances or anyone elses for that matter. I know a lot of people with very good jobs, some probably better than those that live in semi detached or detached new builds, but chose to live in those houses because it’s where they grew up in, where it’s close to family and friends, the schools they want their children to go to. Some people are so far up their own backsides!

  I fully agree with John Cash, i live in a six bedroom house in Pencoed but unfortunatly my sixteen year old daughter met a lad from Ystrad (Rhondda). As a good mother i went up there to meet his parents, i could not believe that they never owned their own private Wheely-bins and still put their refuse outside on the pavements, not a private drive to be seen for miles. I made my excuse and left the area as fast as my new Volvo could get me out of there. i never felt safe untill i reached Talbot Green.
  
  I grounded my daughter for a month and refused her any contact with that family or area. By gosh, his mother had never even heard of Louis Vuitton.

I find these comment really offensive and snobbish , I still wouldn’t want to know such shallow people , most of the people living in the Rhondda a lovely genuine people who’s families have lived here for generations , if you don’t like it her then why don’t you move !!

I think terraced house.s are better than new builds as they have solid walls and being in terraces you get to know your neighbours.. also lots of people in terraces work and are on good money so leave terraced house.s be..

I can assure you all my household income is considerably higher than those in the new estates. I live in a terraced house simply because it saves me money to buy such things as more gold, Gucci suits and fags. You know…all the things you middle class subscribe too. Why pay more for housing? So my saving money makes me sensible, while you lot pay more. This makes you out to be English immigrant wannabes

For many people living in the terraced houses it is their only hope of buying their own home.The price of new houses built are usually way beyond the means of some young couples.If from the comments made about what should be done,why did those critics come here to live in the first place. There are many housing towns that have the shopping centres and the class of people that go with them.So if you are not happy in the valley then move out.

I find this all very offensive. How dare anyone assume that because I live in a terraced house in the Rhondda that I must be scum. I can see that I have been taught to respect people a lot more than these stupid ignoramous idiots!!!! Money doesn’t make you a better person as you have proved. It takes all sorts.

How dare you pass judgement on the Rhondda. Who in their right mind would want to live in a matchbox with no character. I live in a semi detached that was built around 1900 with loads of original features that only you could dream of. The terraces were built years ago for a purpose and most of them are little palaces. How snobbish some of you are with your rude comments. The people of the Rhondda are genuine, lovely and very friendly. If you don’t like the terraces, clear off because we don’t want or need people like you, go back to your matchboxes that look all the same.

Hello, My name is Ethel and I’m 79, i would like to see some of the Hoity Toity people on here live on my meager pension, after taking out the three nights a week down Judges Hall for my Bingo nights, a few packs of Lambert & Butler and the odd bottle of Lambrini, I have hardly any money left for a couple of days out for lunch down Porthcawl with Doris using our bus passes. I have lived in a terraced house all my life and had to nick coal from Mr Lewis next door just to keep warm when i was just eleven years old, The good old days.

If you don’t like the Rhondda go and live in Surrey you stuck up posh twats.

The valleys were built by hard working Welsh (and some others) families. Let us never forget our roots. Yes I am sure there are thousands of families that would like to live in “golden mansions” buy get real there is still a housing shortage in the U.K. Terraced housing is a British way of life (they even have them in London and many house several families on different floors!), most in the valleys are luxury, one family to each house !

Most of you living in your new builds come from the terraced homes in the valley or even God for bid council houses. I’ve lived in 5 bedroom detached houses to a bedsit, I now live in a lovely 2 bed home with views to die for in the middle of the Rhondda local shops great neighbours what more could you ask for. So please if your not happy move.

Do not understand why these people who like to think that they are better than anyone else. I use to live in the Talbot green area for many years and just like to say not all the people living there were posh or thought they were better than anyone else and there are some not very nice areas in Talbot Green either. I knew of someone who owned a business in Talbot Green and they lived in a very nice area in Talbot Green but I wouldn’t let a pig live in it so its not about how much money you have as we all end up in the same place once you dead.

I thoroughly agree with this absolutely divine article, in all honesty, I find that, well you know, ” them “, that live in those over inhabited kennels, if not for a better word, could do with a ruddy good scrub and stop breeding. Their houses, if that’s the correct word, should be compulsory purchased, for no doubt peanuts, and the under nourished inhabitants then forced to live in communal barns far away for us, just in case they spread nits.
